PROJECT 1 - SITE CONTEXT AND BUILDING ANALYSIS (INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE DESIGN III)

GROUP 3: BUILDING ANALYSIS + INTERIOR  Existing condition of interior elements consists of a wall, floor, ceiling, door, window, staircase, roof, openings, built-in furniture, spatial function and layout analysis, natural ventilation, etc.

Scenario:
Site context and building analysis is a vital step in the design process of interior architecture. It involves the evaluation of an existing site in relation to the development program, environmental impact, impacts on the community and adjacent properties, project budget, and schedule. The site analysis identifies environmental, program, and development constraints and opportunities. A well-executed site investigation forms the essential foundation for a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive, and rational approach to project development. The physical, cultural, and regulatory characteristics of the site are initially explored. Some of these factors can be assessed by collecting and analyzing information; others are best addressed by walking the site and traversing its environs.

Task: OBSERVE + EXAMINE + ARCHIVE
The site is both a limitation to design and provider of incredible opportunities. Every site has its own physical attributes that comprised of memories and traces of its surroundings. The neighboring buildings, materials used, form, height, and other physical characteristics will affect and influence the design later on. In short, to understand your site is to find 'clues' that inform your design ideas in a creative manner. All these must be reflected from your study that will be in-groups.

Site: Jao Tim

I was in Group 3, where we need to do building analysis and interior. We do the findings of the materials that are used for the interior, such as floorings, roof structure, furniture, and walls. Not only materials but also the usage of the building itself in the past, before it was open as a cafe in the present. We also find out about the style of the cafe itself which is an art deco style and finding out about the space itself.
